Kathy Jutila, M.D. graduated from Montana State University receiving a B.S. in Biology and a Master’s degree in Microbiology.
She continued her education at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM. Her residency was in Internal Medicine and fellowship in cardiology. She completed her medical training in 1988 and has been practicing medicine for the past 24 years.
She first practiced Internal medicine and Cardiology at a large private institution in Albuquerque. She then joined faculty as a professor of medicine at the University of New Mexico which her responsibilities included training of medical students, residents and fellows.
She stated that one of her primary interests was treating risk factors for heart attacks and strokes including diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and other chronic diseases.
During her last few years at the University she developed outreach programs in several small towns in New Mexico which she travelled to these areas to provide healthcare services.
Since Montana paid for her medical school training she decided to come back to Montana to pay the state back with healthcare services in a rural area.
Dwight Thompson, PA-C had told her about Harlowton and its unique needs for healthcare. She initially came to Harlowton as a travelling doctor and ended up staying as a full time doctor because she loved the community, its people and the ongoing efforts of WMH to improve healthcare delivery to the area.
She states that her goals are to continue to develop programs to improve healthcare delivery here in Harlowton and the surrounding areas. This also would include providing services such as treadmill testing, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. She also stated that she loves to teach and that Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is now a “rural preceptor site” associated with the University Of Washington School Of Medicine. This will allow us to have medical students and residents rotate thru WMH for a month at a time and hopefully we can recruit some of these trainees to come and practice when they are done training.
When asked about her personal life she stated that she has a wonderful 26 year old son who lives in Portland, Oregon he is the pride of my life and that you might find her out and about bird watching which is one of her passions or walking her dogs.
