SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY EXAMS AVAILABLE AT WHEATLAND MEMORIAL HEALTHCARE

Full field digital mammography continues to be the screening method best suited to early detection of breast cancer.  When breast cancer is detected in its earliest stages the treatment and prognosis is very positive without debilitating surgical intervention.
For screening mammograms women must be between the ages of 35-65 and you cannot have had a previous mammogram in the past 12 months.  For screening mammography (those women without any symptoms) a medical provider’s order is not required.
Many women are unable financially to obtain regular screenings which can provide the subtle changes that can be an early cancer.  Wheatland Memorial has been committed to finding funding to assist in providing screening mammography for all women who do not have health insurance. Women who have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid coverage are covered for an mammogram once a year.
Wheatland Memorial Healthcare and the Helmsley Trust Foundation has funding available for free screening mammograms for those persons without health insurance. There are eligibility requirements for the free screenings.
Wheatland Memorial Healthcare recently received a grant from the Helmsley Trust providing our facility with the latest state of the art mammographic equipment.  Our mammography room has been completely renovated to provide a pleasant private area for the examination.  Full field digital images are electronically captured and sent to American College Board Certified Radiologists for interpretation.
When it comes to breast cancer survival remember that early detection is the best protection.  Please call 632-3121 to be scheduled for mammography screening.
